First Steps of the Tomb Found

On November 4, 1922, 104 years ago, Howard Carter's team in Egypt's Valley of the Kings uncovered a single step cut into the rock. After years of digging and finding almost nothing, that step led down to the sealed tomb of the young pharaoh Tutankhamun. Carter's diary that night said just five words: "First steps of tomb found." Patient work is often one step away from discovery.
